Stefan Grossman at Band On The Wall.

Well, I went with my cousin Greg to see the great Stefan Grossman last night, and he was ace. I wonder if any of you took my advice and went to see him at The Works in Sowerby Bridge. If you didn’t, you missed an opportunity to see a true legend of the acoustic blues scene. As a young Jewish boy in the Bronx, he had years of lessons from the Reverend Gary Davis and was a part of the folk revival there. Through the Rev. Davis and through his own travels he met many of the great players and soaked up the knowledge, music and myths. Listening to him play and talk was inspirational. I’m really into fingerstyle guitar these days and was so charmed by him I got him to sign my acoustic guitar! Not something I would normally want ANYONE to do, but somehow it felt right. Now when I’m picking those old blues tunes, under my pickin wrist, there’s a little bit of the source.
